Question Computer freezing
Yesterday my computer started freezing on me. This only seems to happen when it is hooked up to the internet. I was thinking maybe it was the drivers involved with Ethernet plugs or something, but I'm not sure.

Anyone have any ideas?

Have you ran some scans for any malware lately....what protection programs do you have?

When it freezes up are you just browsing the web or playing a game...and how do you recover from the freeze?

I'm using Malwarebytes, Spy Sweeper, and Symantec AntiVirus. Also I have a few little programs like CCleaner, Diskeeper, Windows Washer, and Hijack This.

It happens when I'm browsing or playing a game. Actually it seems to happen even if I'm just connected and doing something else.

I turn it off by holding the power button then letting it rest for about 10min.

Could be an heat issue....is the PC been cleaned out of dust recently and the heat-sink isn't clogged up with dust and the fans spinning freely?

Is this connected to a router?

No it has not been cleaned out recently. It used to be connected to a router (about a week ago it was) but with it connected to that the internet was cutting on and off about every 2 min. This was happening with all computers connected to the router so I just hooked on computer to the modem until that issue was resolved. It seems that if it was a heat issue then it would freeze even when it was not connected to the modem.

You can try doing a scan with Malwarebytes....download to your desktop and install and update and Scan

Your problem first was that all the PC would get disconnected through the Router so now you are going direct from the modem and the problems seems to be occurring again....so could be your ISP provider

No my computers used to just get disconnected from the internet when I would use the router. (This only started happening about a week ago in the whole year I have had it). I already have Malwarebytes and have already scanned with it (I said in previous post). My windows computer is freezing when it is connected to the internet. My Macbook's work fine when connected directly to the modem. I have yet to test if it freezes when connected to the router but I am not having the same problems so it is not my ISP.

OK understood.......but freezing just when connected to the Internet and no other time...seems odd.......does it freeze quite quickly...if it does you can perform a test by going into Safe-mode with Networking and see if it freezes in that mode...also I would suggest posting a HJT log in Normal mode to see what shows up.

How to Start in Safe-mode with Networking

1. Restart your computer.
2. Before the windows logo you should gently tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with a Windows XP Advanced Options menu.
3. Select the option for Safe Mode with Networking using the arrow keys.
4. Then press enter on your keyboard to boot into Safe Mode.
5. Do whatever tasks you require and when you are done reboot to boot back into normal mode..
