Unhappy Win XP problem
Hi, How can I run a system restore from dos prompt for Windows XP professional? My laptop shuts off when it gets to the windows xp loading screen. Sometimes it will let me get to the log on user screen but then shuts down and restarts. The same thing happens when I try it in safe mode. Although I was able to do safe mode w/ command prompt and run chkdsk and defrag. I do not have the Windows cds...I'm stuck and I need help getting my comp. back someone please!!!!!

Hi,

You need to copy and paste these steps (or print them) to have.....if you type them manually you have to do it exactly as it appears.

1. Restart your system
2. When the system first boots, type F8 to bring up the boot menu
3. Select the Safe Mode with Command Prompt option
4. Log-on as administrator if needed
5. At your command prompt type %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe
6. Hit Enter
6. This will open the system restore wizard…

Let us know if you are able to restore, or not.
