Solved: Very frustrated. Constant Freeze
My pc will freeze five to ten minutes after log in. It started about three days ago. I have no idea how this all started of course. It is really frustrating because I am having trouble doing anything. 4th attempt at this post. it freezes every time i start and av program. Reg Mechanic hasn't done anything for me. When it freezes it won't come back, I have to hold down power button. Not sure what to do now since registry is clean, and I can't run any av.
Please help

Please do not use any registry cleaners. They will do more harm than good, no matter what they advertise.

Please click here to download and install the HijackThis installer.

Run it and select Do a system scan and save a logfile.

The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next post.

Do not fix anything

Run HijackThis again and put a check mark on these following entries, and click on "Fix":

O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {53F6FCCD-9E22-4d71-86EA-6E43136192AB} - (no file)

O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {925DAB62-F9AC-4221-806A-057BFB1014AA} - (no file)

O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)

O20 - AppInit_DLLs:

If you can, download and run a full scan with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to see what it comes up with.

Also, you could try a Clean Boot:

CLEAN BOOT TROUBLESHOOTING technique

First, restart in Normal mode.

Then,

Run msconfig and select the "Services" tab. Check "Hide Microsoft Services" and then disable the rest. Also uncheck "Load startup group" on the General page.

Now restart and test the issue at hand.

If no problems, run msconfig and recheck half the disabled items on the Services tab. Test again. If the problem recurs, uncheck half the items you just checked to narrow down the culprit.

If the problem didn't occur, check the other half, so all the Services are enabled -- proceed to do this on the Startup tab as well.

Get the idea? You want to isolate the problem to a specific startup if possible.

Note: if you already have items unchecked under msconfig > Startup and are in “Selective” startup mode – you should note what these are before beginning. They will need to be de-selected again.

lllKinGllErtOlll:

I see a problem in your computer that needs to be dealt with - 2 antivirus programs(Alwil Avast4 and Avira AntiVir) installed and running in the background at the same time. They'll fight with each other and bog down your computer and make it more susceptible to infection. You need to uninstall one of them.

(I almost missed seeing it in the O4 list because the names are so similar.)

----------------------------------------------------------------

As Phantom010 has already advised you, stay away from registry cleaners. You've been using PC Tools Registry Mechanic, so it's unknown what damage it's already done.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Other than avast or avgnt(depending on which one you keep and use) and ctfmon, practically every other startup entry can be disabled from automatically loading and running.

----------------------------------------------------------------

BitComet is present in your log. File-sharing sites leave your computer wide open to infection.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Surprised I missed that one!!! It was obvious. That will definitely freeze up things. You've got your cure right there! Never use more than one antivirus program at the time.

Like you said it, the names are so similar.

I would recommend getting rid of Avast and keeping Avira.

I think Avira has had overall better reviews in comparatives and even here on TSG. Of course, it's often a matter of taste and what works best for you.

Will load it on here then, I trust your judgement, it was just before my move i put it on the other computer so did not get a chance to have a look at it. Its weird only having one computer to use.
