Question lsass.exe worm help
I believe I have a worm. My problem is that I can't find my original CD's that came with my laptop. I've read as much as I can possibly can trying to fix the problem - I can't even get to the Start Up menu. The message I'm getting now is:

"Windows couldn not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM.SAV
You can attemp to repair this file by starting Windows setup usuing the original Setup CDROM
Select "r" at the first screen to start repair"

Can someone please advise? At the very least - can you tell me the cheapest place to buy Windows XP? Do I need a brand new one or can I buy a used one (I've seen these for sale on Amazon). Is there such a thing as just buy a service pack and would that help with the message I'm getting?

I really don't care about using the whole microsoft office - except maybe the photos - but even then - as long as I can get my computer running for now until I get enough money to buy everything I need would be a start.

Just a side note...I'm a single mom and forget things sometimes - my kids are on summer break (otherwise I'm right there when they go on the web) and I'm pretty sure going onto MYSPACE and trying to download backgrounds did this. And YES - I wasn't up to date on anything - service pack or anti-virus - I kept hitting ignore because I was going onto sites I knew were safe! LESSON LEARNED BY ALL!!

Thank you so much in advance for anyone that leaves feedback - I greatly appreciate it and look forward to hearing from you!

Hello somedevilinmaine. Is there anything here that helps if not go to filehippo and download the latest hijack this software and post a log for the experts to have a look for you.

Why do you believe you have a worm? Has a security program alerted you?

If you really do have a worm, the proper place to start a thread is in the Malware Removal forum. They are the only ones permitted to help you remove malware, including the lsass.exe worm (Sasser worm)...
