Try a system restore back to a date before you downloaded the update for your driver

start > run > msconfig. OK

click on launch system restore
restore my computer to an earlier time
choose a date in bold

hopefully this will solve your problem

How about rolling back to the previous driver through Device Manager?

Click Start, click Run, and then type "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotation marks).
Click on Display Adapters and right-click your card. Choose Properties and the Driver Tab. Choose Roll Back Driver.

DOH!
Okay, you can completely uninstall your Nvidia drivers and reinstall from the CD that came with your graphics card or the Nvidia site.

You may also try running Windows update which may give you a driver update.

If you decide to reinstall from the Nvidia site download the drivers to your desktop 1st, then uninstall what you have now and install from your desktop.

As you said, someone else may chime in with other suggestions. Good luck.

You can skip # 2 if you decide to do # 3.

Best place is the Nvidia site:
