A hard drive format and fresh install of the operating system will usually result in the drivers for some of the devices needing to be installed. In your case, the network adapter driver likely needs to be installed.

Does the Device Manager show any listings under Network Adapters? If there is no heading with that name, is there a heading named Other Devices or Unknown Devices, and is there a listing under it?

What is the brand name, model name, and model number of your computer?

Right click My Computer, click Manage.
Click Device Manager.

To find the driver we will need the model number of the Motherboard if the Ethernet card is built in, or the model number of the card if it's an add in.

Might be easier to download a System Info tool to see if it can determine the model numbers for you rather than opening the case to find the numbers.

Don't know if you can use a USB drive to copy the files, as you may need the chipset driver installed to get USB working.
If you have a floppy drive I have an older standalone version of SIW that will fit on a floppy if you don't have/want to use a CD. Click my name in the upper left corner of this post, then the Visit Homepage link, then click System Tools.
