Screensaver wont stay on
Seems to be a common issue these days but I cant find my particular problem here anywhere. I have my screensaver set to come on after 3 minutes, which it does but then after a few minutes it goes back to Desktop idle mode. I have checked all power settings and all are corrrect {see screenshot}. I am using the 3D Win XP Screensaver. Anyone got any ideas??

Answers.Yahoo check says could be caused by electro magnetic interference from nearby appliances such as a cell phone or cordless phone!

Try a longer wait time.Try 10 minutes just to see if that is the problem and if it fixes it then bring the wait time down 1 minute at a time until the problem reoccurs and then go back up 1 min. to set it .

Ok! Tried that at 10 minutes right up to 15 minutes and still getting the same response. Desktop comes back on exactly 90 seconds after Screensaver cuts in. The Screensaver is from Microsoft Windows XP. I dont remember seeing this one in my selection before and I didnt download it either. I'd say that its come through with one of the automatic updates.

I've reset Screensaver to my old one, and the problem has disappeared but I really like the new one. I've attached a Screenshot from Microsoft Screensavers with my computer specs on the top right for you to have a look at. I'd like to get to the bottom of this if I can.

No point having a Screensaver that I cant use and I'm sure if you were in my shoes, you would like to find the cause too...Regards Ken

What I said was "No point having a Screensaver that I cant use". Personal choice. Havent you ever asked why? How about a bit of help here or I'll pass this onto a moderator. Give me a break. I'm still learning, and I might remind you that I am a financial member of TSG.

HI there,I have that very picture in My Pictures so I can use it as wallpaper.I have no idea why is shutting off in the screensaver mode.
But you could try this if you can put that picture in your My Pictures folder,
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...reensaver.mspx.
I couldn't find the path to the screensaver mode just now, need a bit more time, but if you do a search for it then check to see if that screensaver is in there..
Found one path but didn't get what I was looking for.
Sorry. But try making your own screensaver following the instructions in that link.

You could have helped more by giving me a few suggestion or ideas like Mr Newton.

Have you tried to set your power settings to [ Never ] turn off the HDD ???
Does it work if you choose a built-in XP screen saver .. like Starfield ???

Well! Hello there Noyb. I have power set to {Never} so that isnt the problem and as far a I know the Windows XP Screensaver is built in. Thats where I found it. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I didnt download it, so it may have have dropped in with Auto Updates or it could have been there for a while. I havent checked my built in screensavers for quite a while.

I've been wondering about the same thing. I just did a clean install of XP for security reasons and, upon fiddling around with the screensavers, noticed that they would go off after a few minutes and return to the desktop. Now I realize that the original purpose of screensavers is long past, but nevertheless, every now and then I still enjoy the state of mild hypnosis that comes over me after watching the pipes for awhile. At any rate, I'm curious to see if anyone has the answer to this pressing question.

Okay.

They served a purpose with old old CRTs'.

Do you have a plasma screen?

If no, then they aren't necessary and are a waste of resources.

I quit using them once I realized that within 5 minutes of it coming on, my cooling fans kicked in. Heat is your enemy.

No Plasma?

No point having screen saver.

Edit: New laser mouse is very sensitive, vibration could de-activate the screensaver, such as your fans kicking in to cool.
