Troubled XP OS
I'm a guy who can usually fix his own virus or OS problems when it comes to Windows machines but this time i'm really in need of help. Yesterday my computer's internet browsers (that includes IE 8/Opera/Firefox) would not display any websites until i rebooted the computer. Opera says "connection closed by remote server" while IE 8 and Firefox says its a connection error when i tried to connect to any sites.

The problem re-surfaced again today at around the same time as it did yesterday. In IE8 it asked me to run the add-on "shell doc object and control library" from "Microsoft Corporation". I did a bit of research and found no traces of this being a malicious object so i installed it but to no avail did the websites start to work again.

So i rebooted again but right after i enter the desktop i get bombarded by several pop-up error messages of saying Error: "S32evnt1.dll. An installable Virtual Device Driver failed DLL initialization". I closed them all because the "Terminate" key does not seem to have an effect anyhow.

I'm really worried that more problems will come later on so i did a spy-bot scan and removed a few entries. Hopefully that can fix the problem but i'm perplexed by this series of events that doesn't string up even a bit. If the experts here can help me out on this that would be greatly appreciated.

Did you track down S32evnt1.dll to see where it is, what it is, and what it is for? It doesn't look like a typical malicious name, but I never saw it before, either.

I'd strongly suspect that you are infected, possibly by a rootkit.

Just for a simple investigative thing to do, download and install Process Hacker. Go to Tools > Hidden Processes, and hit the Scan button. Is there anything listed there that is hidden from Task Manager (in red)?

Okay, so i fixed the internet connection error. So it turns out that after disabling Windows Firewall all that stuff about can't connect to any websites are gone.

S32EVNT.dll resides in a Symantec folder in my C drive. It seems like left overs from my old Norton suite that i never got to worry about until now. Today i booted up twice and it seemed that the messages aren't popping up anymore. I won't try to fix it since it's not showing any symptoms but for security measure i'll run a full scan with Kaskpersky just in case.
