Solved: Dell resolution HELp
I just recently got a new laptop for gaming (so now my desktop is...well...obsolete), so I wiped my desktop completely and reinstalled windows XP, and now the resolution is all screwed up. I have searched google, but I can't seem to find anything that worked. I right clicked and went to properties, then I went to the settings tab, and I couldn't move the resolution bar, it was stuck at the lowest (640 by something else) and with a low color quality. I clicked "advanced" and then the monitor tab. there was nothing there at all... I couldn't click on properties or anything (which means i couldn't install the driver from there) so I clicked on the adapter tab (there was nothing here either). I tried installing the driver from the dell drivers and utilities disk that the computer came with, but it wasn't listed. Please help this is really making me mad :P. According to the system properties on this computer as of now, i am running microsoft win xp home edition, version 2002, service pack 2, intel (r) pentium (r) 4 cpu 2.80 GHz, 2 GB RAM

Thanks

What's the service tag number on the sticker?

----------------------------------------------------------------

A hard drive format and fresh install of XP will rarely install the drivers for all the devices in a computer. That's why you want to have the current drivers burned off to a CD-R before you start.

In your case, the driver for the display adapter/graphics controller didn't get installed, so the resolution is stuck on 640 X 480.

I fixed it, I need the Intel Graphics display driver, which was conveniently on the hard drive already, but windows just didn't pick it up. Thanks a lot though
