Unhappy Slow windows XP with low CPU usage help!
I have a Windows XP 256MB ram and 100GB hard drive.
My porblem is, my computer is really slow!
I had AVG which i uninstalled and replaced it with One Care by windows live and I also have spywear doctor.
I did a defrag. I deleted unused programs and temporary files including prefetch files. I have also eliminated start-up programs i dont need.
The only program i ever use is Firefox. Even when im not running any program my computer can barely open up the start menu.

I have only used about 15.8 GB!

what can i do?

do you have windows xp service pack 3? than it used be. how fast is your processor?
You should probably upgrade your RAM to at least 512mb, windows xp uses a lot more ram now, than it did with service pack 1 or 2 (at least in my experience)

The primary reason why that computer is running like a turtle is because it has only 256 MB of RAM. You need to add at least another 256 MB - and preferably more if the motherboard supports it.

Adding Windows Live One Care and PC Tools Spyware Doctor is bogging it down even more. Uninstall and get rid of both of them. Download and install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and SUPERAntiSpyware in their place. They're more user-friendly and have much smaller system requirements.

Do you know how to post a HijackThis log of that computer?
