Bios password asked for when i didn't set one
I don't know a lot about computers but i've been trying to boot from a cd to launch a repair disk, i have the blue screen of death.

But the promblem (other than the BSoD) is that my Bios is asking for a password and i've never put a password on it. I wouldn't know how. It's a dell laptop so is it possible that dell put it on? Or is this a virus of some kind?

Thanks for any help.

Did you try leaving the password blank? hit enter.

I have never heard of one being set by the factory, usually is set by someone with access to the PC as a joke or worse. Or set by the previous owner.

Did you buy it new or used?

If you purchased it New from Dell you can call Dell and prove ownership and they will give you the master password unique to your PC, if they do give you this master password, record it somewhere safe in case you need it again.
