Ok the reason I said that is everything in your specs mentioned brand name except ram, a mistake so many make. Ram that mateches itself but is not an approved ram for the board specifically by model number, can frequently cause these issues and seldom if ever do I see ram "matched" correctly. I will not by a board unless I can go to www.crucial,kingston or corsair.com and match an exact model number of a ram stick to my motherboard model number.

For building a computer, I always recommend the help of a professional technician in a computer store. He will have all the matching components and exactly what goes with what. It's often not worth it to do it yourself only to save a few bucks, unless you REALLLLY know what you're doing.

I agree with your thinking but the problem is I have never found one capable of doing such help. Then they ask the manager and wind up selling you what they have the most of in the back room.

Thank you Gentlemen - It has been almost 2 weeks and no lock-ups since I removed many of those 'start-up' exe files.

Rich-M Do you still suggest that I pick-up the correct RAM 'sticks' for my PC anyway .....or just let it ride? Regardless, thanks for you help. j.

Not necessarily. If you run memtest86 and run at least 3 complete tests (each full test has 8 passes so this can take 3 hours) and come up with no errors then forget about it. www.memtest.org and makes a bootable cd for test.

Rich-M - I found that my computer is still locking up just not as often as before. It occurs while looking at videos primarily. You wrote that "Ram that matches itself but is not an approved ram for the board specifically by model number, can frequently cause these issues". I did buy and install new ram as I thought I would get better performance. I guess I will go to Crucial or Corsair.com and try to match an exact model number of a ram sticks to my motherboard model number.
Where do you suggest I find the Motherboard model number?

That surely will make a difference. If you have a brand name pc, Crucial will match to that. If not then "siw" "standalone should give you that.

I reread your posts and see you have a Medion so all you need is the modelo number at the Crucial site whioch should be on the tower some where.

- I found that my system uses: PC2100 non-parity, non-ECC, unbuffered DDR RAM with a CL vale of 2.5.
- I have found that I bought and installed Kingston PC3200 200 MHz RAM Stick. I will have to pull and re-purchase the correct compatible RAM and hopefully that will help control the lock-up.

You are off to a mistake again....Kingston also has a configurator. You need to find the exact compatible model number and then buy it whether from Kingston, Crucial or Corsair site.

RICH-M Last June, a guy at MicroCenter (Electronic Store here in Marietta GA) told me this would be what I needed, and I bought and installed the chips. So I will take it them back and try to get the right memory for this motherboard. Thank, JeffBic

Clerks in stores understand even less than you do what is right for your computer. I told you how I do it and if I cannot find a match on one of those sites I don't buy the motherboard. If I do I shop for that model elsewhere and remember I do this for a living.

Rich-M It is not there at the Kingston, Crucial or Corsair sites and unfortunately, I bought a Medion Model MED1453 PC off the shelf in 2003. So, I got what I got and I am trying to make the best of it for now. New one next year.
- I will call the mfr and get their recommended 1G chips.
- You are the man. Thanks again for all your help, Bic
