Hello Guys - My PC 'locks up' randomly and nothing will un-freezes it. I have tried everything I know to unfreeze, but nothing. Everything is still on the screen. Looks normal, fans are running in the PC, but is it frozen. I have to shut it off and restart. Then it works fine until it randomly locks up again. I have not noted any particular program or site that is running, it seems just random. Using Foxfire and Thunderbird (latest Vers). On average once or twice/day. Running: XP Home

You have traces of Symantec in your log. Might not be related but Norton is notorious for conflicts with other applications when not properly uninstalled.

Use the Norton Removal Tool and keep me posted.

You also have way too many Startup applications loading with Windows. This will definitely cause Windows to freeze or slow down.

You could trim down your Startup list by doing the following:

Click on Start, Run and type msconfig.

Under the Startup tab, uncheck all unnecessary items.

You can use this website to help you decide which entries to uncheck. Simply enter the .exe files at the end of your HijackThis log's 04 entries one by one.

Remember, almost all applications may be started manually afterwards if needed.

I've attached the exact location to paste the entries.

1.) Have installed Norton Removal Tool but is doesn't like an old WinFaxPro program I have on my PC. I went to the C.Pnl./Removal, but it would not uninstall. I when to the programs list but there was no uninstall there either. So I don't know how to get N.R.T. to work. Any ideas?

Did you install Dit (Dit.exe)? Is it the Drive Icon and Label Utility? If not, it's malware.

After all this, if your computer still freezes, try a Clean Boot to find the culprit application.

Another thing to consider, McAfee is a real system resource hog and you do have the whole bundle. You may want to consider a better alternative, it's up to you.

Rich-M / Yes!, how did you guess? I up-graded my RAM to 2Gs using a set of matching 1G DDR memory chips. Shouldn't this have helped run my system better and with less problems? j.
