Crazy Windows XP/Internet problem!!!!
Hey, I am currently trying to fix a problem which has had me stuck for nearly a month now.

Basically I have just moved house and have taken my laptop and music production PC with me. About a month ago I got a BT Home Hub installed for my broadband.

The problem is I cant get my laptop to connect to the internet. I am using the internet at my old house to write this thread using a usb modem which works fine, however, at my new place it has to connect via ethernet or wireless.

I dont get the 2 overlapping screens in the system tray and also in network connections there is no wireless connection. Even when I connect via ethernet the laptop does not detect that it is plugged in.

I have rebooted windows but still I have the same problem. I am pretty sure I have a wireless card in my laptop(Dell Inspiron 9400) but even if I dont then ethernet should work.

Any ideas why?!?!?!?!?!

by the way when I try a ping test I get the error: Destination Host Unreachable. Can this be fixed?

Appreciate any help.

SPECS:

Dell Inspiron 9400
Intel Centrino Duo
Windows XP Home Edition

Open command prompt and instead of "Ping (IP address) type:
Tracert (insert Ip address here)

It will show you each network
device (routers/switches/hubs/other computers) it go's through and any errors it records in each device.

make 100% sure that the laptop has the wireless adapter either built in on the motherboard, in the pcmcia slot, and that you don't have any exclamation points next to it(if it is detectable) in the device manager.
