Computer boots and runs very slow
Hello everyone!
First of all, I must congratulate you on the fabulous work you've being doing in this forum. You people are amazing!

Now, my case:

My computer started running very slow a few months ago. I think it all started after I used avast! 4 home edition. When I realized that could be the problem I tried to do a system restore. But there wasn't any restore points before the avast scan.
After the scan, everytime I started up my PC a Windows Installer window (with the title "Microsoft Office XP Professional with FrontPage") prompted... Maybe avast has deleted some Microsoft Office components. Nowadays, that window only appears when I, unsuccesfully, try to run Excel.

I've tried to use AVG 8.5 and Ad-Aware 2008, but the PC stills run very very slow and when I start it up, it takes about 15-20min to get ready to be used.

Here are some specifications of my computer:

Hi DDC88 and welcome to TSG

Did you uninstall all recent programs using Add/Remove? This would be a better option than trying to restore to a previous point.

Do you perhaps have any other software you have recently installed?

DDC88:

Right-click MY COMPUTER, then click Properties. What's the amount of RAM listed there?

According to the hardware specs that you posted, that computer appears to have only 128 MB of RAM.

Hopefully, it has more than that. Windows XP needs at least 512 MB of RAM to run properly.

If that computer has an Intel D845GLLY motherboard(according to your hardware specs), it has an Intel 845GL chipset and uses PC133 168-pin SDRAM modules and supports up to 2048 MB of RAM.

I'm guessing at this point that it has either a single 128 MB module or 2 - 64 MB modules installed in the motherboard.

Either way, installing a 512 MB module in both RAM slots is what it needs.
