after XP reinstall, unrecognized devices
My dad reinstalled XP and didn't save all the drivers before hand. This was awhile ago, but I'm helping him with his PC and just noticed two unrecognized devices in the Device Manager.

Other Devices
PCI Memory Controller
SM Bus Controller

Both have that sad yellow question mark. Windows can't find the drivers automatically through the web, no surprise.

Is there some way to find out what these are and get their drivers? He had this PC built custom a couple of years ago and I doubt that there are any records or all the components...

Thanks much

Have you tried removing the casing for your tower and looking at the controller manufacturers and using the appropriate website from there? I've found that when I install third party hardware, I often "forget" the model number and such and I have to manually look at the hardware to get the information I need for the drivers I need. Also, and I realize it's not a solution, sometimes those yellow question marks still allow for the hardware to function despite them not being installed properly. If they do still function, it may not be a huge consideration.

My other thought is don't use windows automatic update to search for the drivers (it's often useless in locating what you need anyway) and manually select to look yourself. Select the appropriate manufacturer (again check the hardware itself), and see if it's listed and try to install that way.

Without manufacturer information you may be out of luck unless it's working despite the status in device manager.
