Question Solved: Inspiron 1501 64bit video drivers...
I just installed 64 bit XP on my Dell Inspiron 1501 and am having trouble finding a video driver that will work. I have the ATI Radeon Xpress 1150. I tried the driver at this URL, from the AMD website:

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownloa...1&lang=English

I also tried the ones here:

http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx

And I of course tried the one here on the Dell site:

http://support.dell.com/support/down...id=-1&impid=-1

Each time I get an error:

thunk.exe
Setup did not find a driver compatible with your current hardware or operating system. Setup will now exit.

Can anybody help me out? I don't think it's a matter of finding the right driver because I've tried many. Is there something I need to do to get the video driver to install right? Any help would be appreciated!

Have you tried installing the driver via Device Manager? Click run, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. Right click on your graphics card, located under "Display adapters" and choose update driver. Choose 'Install from or a specific location" and then "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install." Click "Have Disk" and browse to the location of unpacked 64-bit drivers and select the driver file.

should work for you

Hey thx for the quick reply. When I download the drivers, they all come in .exe executable files but when I try to install via the device manager, I need a .inf file. Is there possibly any way to get the driver file out of the executable so I can use just it?

Nevermind I figured it out. I installed 7-zip to let me unpack the files and then I found the right file to install via the device manager--worked like a charm. I know it worked because I now have about 20 different screen resolution settings whereas before I only had 2.

Thanks for the help!
