Solved: Shutdown of Windows XP ,,slow . computer freezes
When I hit the start button then select shutdown the computer appears to freeze. After a few minutes it finally works. I have no known programs running as Ive shut all down.
But something unknown to me is keeping the machine occupied ,,
Any suggestions would be appreciated

Slow Shutdown
Windows XP for Vista use the Sleep Mode.
A computer has a lot running. Have you never downloaded anything? Do you have a lot of Ram? (memory) Is your Processor slow?
To have a faster shutdown click Start - Turn off your computer - hold down on the Shift Key and click Hibernate.

Before you **** down, hit Control/shift and escape to bring up the Task Manager, then click the Applications tab. See what's still running in there and also look under Processes and scroll through to see anything that has a percentage figure in the CPU column. As you're about to shut down anyway, you can safely click on End Process for anything you don't think should still be running but post back with details if you have any doubts.

Thanks the articles helped ..I went to the safe mode and did a virus scan,,,not much help but I found some issues and updated two programs ,,Window media player and adobe reader . both had corrupted files.
The issue is still here but quicker..

What I do know is use the WIndows task manager to put the computer in sleep or shut down,,,THERE IS NO DELAY AT ALL...

Believe it or not I called MS a their help line,
They resolved the issue ,,,WONDErFUL service.
I authorized them to take control of my computer and was able to watch the tech do her thing. SHE WAS GREAT AND FIXED IT. I was somehow missing some files or they got corrupted.
Give it a try
