Have you installed anything recently.
Boot into a command prompt and run CHKDSK /r
Also download and run MEMTEST86

okay, thanks, I'll try that right now
I don't think I've installed anything lately, were the minidumps any help?

-- tried chkdsk /r in boot with command prompt, said it would do it on the next restart, still got bsod at windows loading screen, also tried it on safemode with networking, run > cmd.exe

chkdsk /r = volume in use by another process = schedule on restart?
chkdsk = read-only
chkdsk /f = volume in use by another process = schedule on restart?

ran memtest86 for an hour or so, 8th test, with five errors, should I wait until it completely finishes or what?

Any error is enough to replace the ram.

You may be able to determine what module(s) they are in though from the memory test, if not, test one at a time.

Let the ram test run overnight -- and you might also try re-seating them.

Your last dump was on the 10th -- are you getting any since then?

BugCheck 10000050, {ffffffe8, 1, 805266aa, 0}

Probably caused by : HPZid412.sys ( HPZid412+3743 )
The one just before that is the same, as above, and the one before that "memory corruption"

Here might be the fix for that HP error >>

windows debugger tools to view the minidump files, right? I don't think I can install it in safe mode

trying dskchk messes with me and likes to disable safe mode for a while before i can get it started again

how many times has the HP error occurred?

i'm pretty sure it's the ram that's the problem

Just follow the HP instructions here to update your drivers -- all the errors actually pointed there, not to a ram problem; you don't need the debugger, I already used that to determine this fault.

Could I possibly delete HPZid412.sys?

Windows Installer isn't cooperating and I can't install/uninstall/reinstall properly

Not if you want to use your printer. And you just don't "delete" drivers -- you must uninstall them.

What's the issue with Windows Installer?

If the uninstall is failing try using the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to remove any failed uninstall for just that driver install, and try the reinstall again.

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;290301

If you are having install/uninstall problems involving the Windows Installer with other programs -- update the installer >>

If you still have problems -- try the procedure using a "clean boot"

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135/en-us >> writen for Vista but applies just as well to XP

can't use it in safe mode

i can't boot it up in normal mode or it'll bsod at the boot up screen

"The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation.."

Couldn't I just delete it and reinstall the driver later when windows installer is enabled?

Not sure why you are seeing that message if you are Admin, but run regedit and navigate to:

HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer

If you see Name - DisableMSI Type in the right pane, just right click on it and delete it and reboot.

Also, you can prevent the HP drivers from booting if you run msconfig and look for them in both the Startup and Services tabs and disable them there.

Best to "HIDE" Microsoft services if you are unsure of what you are doing in the services tab.

You will have to identify the HP services based on their names -- usually you can tell.

Are you sure it's HPZid412.sys?

I've tried uninstalling the drivers, I can't use any of the HP install/uninstall/reinstall programs

I also uninstalled my HP programs from the control panel

and I can't find any drivers in the msconfig

and I've tried deleting HPZid412.sys from my system (still in recycle bin, can restore)
