Internet wont wor'k after creating a dual boot system, installed xp, xp internet
Well, I created a dual-boot system for Vista - XP, Vista being installed first. The two operating systems seem to be working fine and well with each other, but the internet is not working for the windows XP. The Vista internet is working normally though. When I go onto my XP's Network Connection, it is blank, no Local Area Network what so ever. I really want to use XP because Windows Vista is Microsoft's fail operating thingie.

Help please

Hi, it sounds like you don't have the driver(s) installed for xp to connect to the internet, identify your network adaptor and try to locate the xp drivers and of course install to the xp os. first have a look in device manager in xp and see if there is any red or yellow symbols which will point to missing drivers.

Well, when I check my drivers in XP, it says Other Drivers with a yellow question mark, and when I expand the category, It has Ethernet Adapter with the yellow question mark next to it.

Sorry for late reply.

Hi, that means that you have a driver issue with the adaptor needed to connect xp to the internet which is most likely that the driver is not installed, in fact depending on your pc you may not be able to find the correct driver at all and therefore not be able to connect using xp which is a common issue with pc's built for vista, As i wrote earlier you need to identify exactly which adaptor your pc has and go to the manufactorurs site and search for the correct driver, Use one of these to help you identify the adaptor.

Wait, if this is so, will the adaptor for vista and xp be alike/same? or they are completely different. if so, can i find my vista adaptor, find the same version that is compatible with xp and install it?

If you can't find an xp driver for your adaptor as a last resort try installing the vista driver to the xp os, it may work but i very much doubt it.

On my dual os system pc i was unable to find an xp driver for the adaptor so i added a usb wireless adaptor which i use to connect xp to the internet while i use the onboard adaptor to connect vista, of course this only works if you are on a wireless network,

Hi, you're welcome, fraid there's no easy way to update all your drivers, the correct procedure will be to identify each component and go to their respective site and find the driver, but be careful to set system restore points before installing new drivers as they can sometimes cause erratic pc behaviour that make uninstalling incompatible drivers difficult. use the link to get a single click system restore point creator that simplifies the task if you want it of course.

http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_sysrestorepoint.htm

ps. in my experience the one you need to be most careful with is the graphics as the incorrect driver can cause hard to fix issues.

Bill

system restore does'nt always work so i use ERUNT which in my opinion is a great free tool for backing up the registry in case of problems.
