Lightbulb How to reinstall Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
I want to do a complete reinstall of my system. I have Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 and I have the CD with me right now. I don't care about the data I lose in-fact the reason I'm doing this is to remove any "bad stuff" that could possibly be on my computer. I've search Google to try to find info on how to do a reinstall but I'm concerned since I'm using the Media Center Edition that the instructions may be different for me since I'm using a rare version of Windows. I step by step process of how to reinstall my system would be very helpful.

Thanks.

Very Simple.

First what you want to do is set your bios to boot from the CD frist. Or sometimes depending if you got the pc from a Dell or HP, etc. When you start up the computer look at the option they give you for example Dell will say on the top right corner to press F2 for set up or F12 or F11 to enter boot menu.

If thats the case then you dont have to set the bios up just go into that option and select the cd rom or dvd drive. If not then you will have to make the bios is set up to boot from the cd first.

When that is done start the computer with the cd in it and it will tell you to press a key to boot from cd, just hit enter and it will start to boot from the cd and you will see the windows installation. Follow the instructions they give.

If will get to a point were you have a option to delete the partion make sure you do and format the hard drive for a fresh clean install.

Just let it do it's thing just keep an eye on it. Once it copies the install files it will reboot take the cd out and just let it continue to boot up. You should be at the windows setup were you will need to enter some information. Once that done just do all the updates and install an anti-virus if it doesnt have one BEFORE you do anything else.

Before you take the plunge and format the hard drive and do a fresh install of XP MCE, I highly suggest that you identify the devices in that computer and then obtain the current drivers for them and then burn them off to a CD-R.

It's rare for a fresh install of XP(any version) to install the drivers for all the devices. You can then install from the CD-R any device drivers that didn't get installed.

The display adapter, sound device, network adapter(wired and wireless), and chipset are the primary 4 devices you want to have drivers for.

I have tried to install MC2005 by your method however I have a SATA drive which needs a sata driver. I have tried looking for it via the motherboard ASUS PC4800-E. I then have to downgrade to windows xp which required sata drivers (i dont have), then upgraded to vista which gave me a fussy screen that (most of the time) crashes. Does anyone know how to repair this?
