I have uninstalled all of the programs you listed except MS AntiMalware, MS Security Essentials, Skybot and Windows Live Onecare. I did not want to leave myself exposed overnight. I have downloaded and saved (but not installed) the four programs you suggest.

Hope all this helps in pursuit of faster Windows loading--then I will have to figure out what I am going to do with all that time saved from looking at a screen going no place too slowly to bear.

It looks like the CRUCIAL scanner recognizes your computer as a Dell Dimension 3000 and that it supports up to 2048 MB(2 GB) of RAM and that it uses DDR PC2700 or DDR PC3200 modules.

You'll be fine as long as you're not surfing on-line. Go ahead and uninstall them. Restart if prompted to during an uninstall. Otherwise, restart after they've been uninstalled.

Next, install AVG Free Editon 9.0.698. It'll overwrite and replace the current version. Decline to install the AVG toolbar and the Yahoo search engine. After you're prompted to restart, decline to run the optimized scan. It's not needed and it'll tie up your computer for too long.

Next, install Sun Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0.16. It'll overwrite and replace the current version. Decline to install any extra crap it offers. Restart afterwards.

Next, install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.41. Make sure to allow it to update its definition files during the install process. Restart afterwards.

Next, install SUPERAntiSpyware 4.29.0.1004. Make sure to allow it to update its definition files during the install process. Restart afterwards.

After all of the above has been done, start HijackThis and run a scan, then post that new updated log here.

I have done the Hijack This, run the scan and checked the appropriate boxes.
I then tried to to run the Malwarebytes update function and received an error message: "Error code 703 (0,5)." I sent an email to support and am waiting a reply. In the meanwhile, do you want mt to follow the rest of the list or do they need to be done in exact order---or do you perhaps have another idea?

Go here and click the author's site link to download the file.

After it's downloaded and saved, close all open windows and install it.

After the file is installed, you can delete it.

Start Malwarebytes and follow my previous instructions for doing a scan and fixing what was found and posting a log here.

Do SUPERAntiSpyware next.

Hi,
Hope I didn't screw things up, but I had uninstalled and then reinstalled Malwarebytes and it seemed to have worked. I ran the scan finding nothing to fix. I am now in the middle of running SuperAntitSpyware and will then go back to the Malware per your instructions.
If I have screwed things up, please let me know.
