Warren:

It appears that you installed an older version(1.39) of Malwarebytes and then didn't update it.

Uninstall Malwarebytes and allow it to remove all log entries and quarantined items during the uninstall process.

Go here and click the green icon so you can download the correct version(1.41) of Malwarebytes.

Make sure to allow it to update its definition files during the install process.

Run another "quick scan" with it. A "full scan" isn't necessary and takes too long.

Post the scan log here.

-------------------------------------------------------------

The SUPERAntiSpyware scan log shows what was found, but it doesn't show if you selected and fixed EVERYTHING like the Malwarebytes scan log does.

I'm assuming that you selected and fixed EVERYTHING it found, correct?

Lengthy boot time
Hi,
Nothing was found in the updated version of Malware. There were only two items found in the SUPERantispyware and these were quarantined.

Cheers,

Warren

Lengthy boot time
Hi Again,
Your message on the forum site said to post the scan results there. However, your email message said to post only if the scan wasn't clean.

Cheers, but only slightly confused,

Warren

Warren:

I tend to edit and add to my replies, so you need to read what I post here and not what you read in the Email message.

If Malwarebytes came up clean and SUPERAntiSpyware just found a couple of adware tracking cookies, that's fine and I don't need to see the scan logs.

Post a new HijackThis log here so we can get to work on trimming down the startup load and deal with any log entries that need dealing with.

Let's get started on trimming down that startup load of unnecessary running programs and unnecessary running services.

Some of these don't need to load and run at all, and others can be manually started via the Start menu and desktop icons when needed.

The startup names in your computer may not have .exe as part of the name, so be aware of that.

Click Start - Run, type in MSCONFIG and then click OK - Startup(tab).

Remove the checkmark in:

TkBellExe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe

Microsoft Default Manager C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Search Enhancement Pack\Default Manager\DefMgr.exe

Adobe Reader Speed Launcher C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\Reader_sl.exe

Adobe ARM C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\ARM\1.0\AdobeARM.exe

SunJavaUpdateSched C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jusched.exe

After you're done, click Apply - OK - Exit Without Restart.

Click Start - Run, type in SERVICES.MSC and then click OK.

Expand the services window so you can see the list clearly.

Right-click on and then click Properties on:

Google Desktop Manager 5.7.806.10245 (GoogleDesktopManager-061008-081103) - Google

Google Update Service (gupdate) (gupdate) - Google Inc.

Google Software Updater (gusvc) - Google

InstallDriver Table Manager (IDriverT) - Macrovision Corporation

Java Quick Starter (JavaQuickStarterService) - Sun Microsystems, Inc.

If "Startup Type" is set on Automatic, change it to Manual, then click Apply - OK.

After you're done, close the services window and restart your computer.

When the small "System Configuration Utility" window appears during restart, ignore the message. Put a checkmark in that window, then click OK.

Start HijackThis and run a scan, then post that new log here.

Start HijackThis and do a scan, then put a checkmark in

O16 - DPF: {193C772A-87BE-4B19-A7BB-445B226FE9A1} (ewidoOnlineScan Control) - http://download.ewido.net/ewidoOnlineScan.cab

then click Fix Checked - Yes, then close HijackThis.

Did you install Log Me In in your computer or did someone else install it so they can have remote access to your computer?

Lengthy boot time
Two items checked in HiJack This--and yes, I did have a friend set up LogMeIn.
Next?

Cheers,

Warren

Okay. I just wanted to make sure it didn't get installed without your knowledge and allow remote access to your computer without your knowledge.

I guess we're done.

Lengthy boot time
Well,
Thanks so much for all of your time and efforts on my behalf. I really appreciate.
I do have a next step --and that is to buy some additional RAM with which I hope to go at warp speed.

Cheers and thanks again.

Warren:

I received your private message.

You said you installed 2 - 512 MB modules and your computer is running faster, but it's taking longer to start up?

What else have you done to that computer since you last posted here in you thread?

Post a new HijackThis log here.

Absolutely nothing.
There was a problem before with slow loading and slow boot. The loading problem is happily resolved, but I am still suffering with a long, long boot.

Cheers,

Warren

Post a new HijackThis log, then we'll go from there.

It's my guess that some of the programs you have loading during startup and running in the background is making for a lengthly startup time.

I'm getting ready to go off-line and run some errands and don't plan to be back on my computer later, so I'll check back with your thread in the morning.
