Solved: Video's stop and start
I have XP SP3, 1gb ram...and lately, whenever i go to a site to view video clips, i get the whirling circle to load it and then it starts and about a few seconds stops and then it loads again and restarts. I have AOL, and was able to view these clips in their entirety, and also youtube...but not anymoe. Does anyone have a clue what is going on?

Go here and download Sun Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0.16(6 Update 16).

Go here and download Adobe Flash Player 10.0.32.18.

Close all open windows and then install them.
(Note: If you have an older version of either currently installed, uninstall them first)

Restart your computer.

Open Internet Explorer, then click Tools - Internet Options - Security(tab). Set all 4 zones to "Default Level" and then click Apply - OK.

Close Internet Explorer and then reopen it.

HI, i think i downloaded the 2 files you suggested but it doesn't give any indication where it was downlo, aded to..its not on my desktop. I went to add/remove and they are both there, but i do not know for sure if they are the latest ones. Is it possible i never had them..which seems unlikely. BTW, if you don't have or use IE, would that mean you can't view video clips?

If you're not using Internet Explorer and am using Mozilla Firefox or some other "non-IE" browser, go here and download this version of Adobe Flash Player.

----------------------------------------------------------------

You apparently don't much experience with downloading and installing programs.

I suggest you create a folder right on your desktop and name it Downloads. When you go to download a file and save it, direct it to be saved inside that folder.

After you're through downloading and saving files inside that folder, you can then go inside that folder and install them from there.

video stops and starts
Well, on the contrary..i do know how to and create a download folder, but this download did not give me that option. It asked me if i want to run it or save it. i chose the latter and it does its thing without giving me a browse box to point it to go. anyhow, its been done and i do have firefox that i use. Would there be any problems being that i don't use IE. Its still on my system..after all one can't get rid of it

When you start to download a file, it usually gives you the option to "open", "run", or "save" it.

Unless you're specifically advised otherwise, always choose to "save" it.

A dialog box should then appear so you can select where you want the file to be saved.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

If you have

Adobe Flash Player ActiveX

Adobe Flash Player Plug-in

Sun Java Runtime Environment 6 Update 16

listed in the "Add Or Remove Programs", then they've been installed.

Well, i did it with add/remove in control panel and all is well, except, i was doing this also to my laptop to bring it up to date too. I show all that you mentioned above in my desktop, and my laptop shows all, except the activeX. iy does show Flash player plug in 10. Do i need that in the laptop? where would i get that?

This is a followup since my last post..i went to areas where i had gone before and had previous success...you tube and aol video news clips..and there was no improvement whatsoever with these updates. A very slight edge goes to the laptop but no cigar. I couldn't even open the clips on aol, but to be honest aol is not very reliable these last few years

I've never had a java install failure, so I can't advise you how to resolve it.

Flavalle, sorry its my laptop that doesn't show the activeX...my desktop has it, thanks...may i ask you, when you open a video clip in any area, does it play through without any interruptions, regardless of its length?

FWIW, try installing it through add/remove in control panel. for some reason worked out better for me. also, as Flavalle suggested to remove the old versions first.
