When I turn the computer on as soon as the welcome screen comes up to sign in, a window pops up saying "The system is shutting down. Please save all work in progress and log off. Any unsaved changes will be lost. This shutdown was initiated by NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM. Time before shutdown: [counts down from 1 min] Message: the system process 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe' terminated unexpectedly with status code -1073741482. The system will now shut down and restart."
I have tried system restore which is unsuccessful, I have done "last known good configuration" which also doesn't work. I'm in grad school and need my computer...I NEED HELP ASAP!!

You should try running antivirus and/or anti-spyware scans in Safe Mode.

it won't run. i think it expired since the computer started doing this last week. is there something i can do other than that?

Please click here to download and install the HijackThis installer.

Run it and select Do a system scan and save a logfile.

The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next post.

Do not fix anything

Preferably, once installed on your computer in Safe Mode with Networking, you should run HijackThis in Normal Mode. If you have 60 seconds before reboot, you'll have time to run the program (takes less than 30 seconds) and save the results from Notepad.

You should be able to run and download in Safe Mode with Networking. The only difference with Safe Mode alone is your Internet access.

While in Safe Mode with Networking, it would also be a good idea to run online antivirus scans from ESET and/or BitDefender. Kaspersky too, but it's not available at the moment.

After running HijackThis in Normal Mode, did you save the log appearing in Notepad before your computer rebooted? If not, it will be lost and you'll need to run HijackThis again.
