Unhappy Device Help (XP SP3)
When the installation fails for some reason (like canceling it), it then ignores the thing when plugged in, as if it's not plugged in. Yes, I've installed the drivers. Also, another problem is that it does NOT show up in the device manager. Please help! (note that the ones that are infected is the XBOX 360 wireless receiver and a sound card from Creative (even though I don't have the sound card))

Please explain a bit clearer --- The installation failed because you cancelled it ??? Sound card not recognized because you dont have it ???:

Give us a bit more clearer information and perhaps we can help you.

The canceling was just an example, anything can happen to make the thing not install. Also, when I install the drivers for the sound card, it picked up as if it is installed in the PCI slot. Sorry for confusing you.

Devices won't normally appear in Device Manager if they are not connected/physically installed, so if you installed drivers for a Creative sound card that isn't actually present, it won't appear. Unless the driver creates a virtual device, and even then it may be treated as a device that is not connected.

If the driver isn't installed for a device, it may appear under Other Devices instead of it's normal category.

You can add the following Environment Variable to allow Device Manger to show devices that are not connected and to show duplicate entries that may cause problems, or you can boot to Safe Mode to check:

Go to Control Panel | System
Click the Advanced tab, then click the Environment Variables button
Under the System variables section, click the New button.
In the Variable name: box type DevMgr_Show_NonPresent_Devices
In the Variable value: box type 1
Click OK, then click OK again on the Environment Variables window
In Device Manager, Click View | Show hidden devices

Any duplicate drivers, and drivers for devices not connected (USB Flash etc), will show up as "ghost" icons. Note that there are several items under Sound, video and game controllers that are normal to show as a "ghost" icon, such as Microsoft Kernel devices. Don't remove them unless they are duplicated.
Under Network Adapters there may also be a RAS Async Adapter and possibly a Microsoft TV/Video Connection item, you can leave unless they are duplicated, in which case remove both.

Unfortunately, TheOutcaste, the drivers didn't appear as a ghost device. and another thing, when I plug in my XBox 360 Wireless Receiver to my computer, Windows seems to ignore it as if it isn't really connected. I nead help!

If it doesn't appear anywhere in Device Manager, even in Safe Mode, then I'd suspect either the USB port is defective, or the Device itself is.
Try a different port.
Try the wireless receiver on a different PC, see if it's detected.

That should at least narrow down the problem. Hard to do more without being able to go "hands-on"

The USB Ports work correctly, as when I put in a flash drive, it picked it up normally. Also, I don't think the device is broken (as evidenced by the fact that when I try do install the drivers for the soundcard(Even though I don't have it), it at first detected as if there's a new hardware).
