Can't find a way to connect to the internet
I was given an old Gateway laptop MA2A MX6121. I have used it before online wireless. The previous owner bought a new one and this one sat on a shelf for months. I got it and cannot figure out how to connect to the internet. I have even plugged it directly in to my router and can't figure it out. I ran a Malwarebyte scan due to a popup I was getting when I turned the computer on and found 16 viruses. The popup is gone now. I'm not sure what info I need to include. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

Go from Start to Control Panel and then Network Connections. Does anything show in there as Local Area Connection? Also in Control Panel, look in Internet Options then Connection then click the LAN button. Put a tick in "Automatically detect settings", click Apply and OK. Start Internet Explorer again and see if tat got you connected.

Network connections is blank. When I click on Automatically detect settings there is no apply button. I clicked ok and still nothing. There's no little computers on the taskbar to even look for a connection. Also tried to play a cd and got a message saying problem with the sound device. I think maybe the whole computer has been corrupted somehow.

Restart and go into BIOS by tapping Delete or Function2 - whichever the screen says you need to get to Setup. Look through the menus to find an ethernet or network connection and make sure it's enabled. Function 10 and Yes usually gets you out then try Control Panell>Network Connections again.
