This has started to happen recently.
Every time I download a large RAR (more than 700 MB), it won't extract properly, and will say there's been a CRC error of sorts. What does that mean?
This has been happening to every large file I download, from multiple sources! I really hope somebody can help me.
Thanks in advance. | | Distinguished Member with 4,305 posts. | | Join Date: Oct 2007 Experience: Advanced | | | | | Junior Member with 4 posts. | | Join Date: Nov 2009 Experience: Intermediate | | Yeah, my WinRAR is up do date, but I also tried extracting with 7zip. Same thing.
So this is a software issue? | | Distinguished Member with 4,305 posts. | | Join Date: Oct 2007 Experience: Advanced | | | | | Distinguished Member with 7,626 posts. | | Join Date: Mar 2009 Location: Cyberspace Experience: Advanced | | CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check) are either a result of the file being corrupted or bad RAM. | | Distinguished Member with 7,626 posts. | | Join Date: Mar 2009 Location: Cyberspace Experience: Advanced | | You can check your RAM using Memtest. Download the ISO Image and burn it to a CD/DVD. Then, boot from it and follow the on screen instuctions. | | Junior Member with 4 posts. | | Join Date: Nov 2009 Experience: Intermediate | | Thanks for the reply, but I still don't understand.
What do I do with the RAM test data? Will it tell me what is wrong? Or should I post it here? Is there a way to fix it, or should I prepare to buy a new one? | | Distinguished Member with 7,626 posts. | | Join Date: Mar 2009 Location: Cyberspace Experience: Advanced | | | | | Junior Member with 4 posts. | | Join Date: Nov 2009 Experience: Intermediate | | Isn't there another test I can do now? This Memtest will surely take the whole day. I'm thinking maybe running it overnight. | | Distinguished Member with 7,626 posts. | | Join Date: Mar 2009 Location: Cyberspace Experience: Advanced |

#10 | The other possibility I can think of, is that your file may be corrupt. But, if they all do the same thing, it's unlikely. Memtest is the only test I can think of for now. | |
