Unable To Boot XP Home
I get error message "Missing Ordinal 522 in iertutil.dll". I have run some Dell applications to test the hard drive etc. I put in the Dell OEM CD with XP Home to try and boot that way to no avail. I downloaded "iertutil.dll", but don't know what to do with it... how to get it installed.

All this started when trying to install Windows IE 8. It crashed. Any help greatly appreciated.

I did a search on my windows xp and your missing file shows up in Windows.
The description when I hang the pointer over it is = Run time utility Internet Explorer.

Right click Start - Explore - Windows is located under Programs. This file was in my
windows updates. Click the plus sign in front of KB969897-IE8 Than click SP3QFE
On the right side of your screen you will see the files. If your file is listed and corrupt
rename it by adding Old and put the new .dll in the group of files.
Don't delete the file that you renamed by adding Old.
You will need to see if this corrects the problem.
If I made a mistake maybe someone will correct me and help out.

I've been attempting this, but I haven't located the correct directory in DOS. Part of the problem is that I've forgotten a lot about DOS commands. I'm still trying.

I'm wondering if I can use DOS commands to copy C:\ to an external hard drive (D:\). I'm thinking of reformatting the current C:\ drive because I can't overcome a missing file in iertutil.dll which prevents me from opening Windows XP. I have run all kinds of diagnostics showing no problems with C:\, memory, etc. I don't want to lose data files when reformatting the hard drive.
