Solved: all drop down menus SUPER-sensitive!
suddenly this week, all the drop down menus on my computer (tools, windows, etc.), the menu from my "start" button, and even all the drop downs on my photoshop program are SOOOOOO incredibly sensitive! practically just going near them activates the menus, and even if my mouse goes over something at lightning speed, it STILL activates that menu and i have to click somewhere else to get it to disappear. is there a setting for this sort of sensitivity?

Have you applied any recent tweaks? it sounds like your menu delay has changed...default is 400 i believe and anything under150 is impractical

I found it..here is the path for the key
be sure to back up the registry before hand if not confident

HKEY_CURRENT_USER / Control Panel / Desktop / MenuShowDelay

asuss06, If you have Tweak UI installed open it click on "Mouse" (left side) and under "Menu Speed" move the slider to the right to slow the Menu Speed down. You can test the speed by right clicking the test icon.

If you don't have Tweak UI installed and you're not comfortable editing the registry manually you can download Tweak UI at the link below. After you download and install it you'll find it in Start>Programs>Powertoys for Windows XP>Tweak UI.

start
run
type in regedit
hit enter button on keyboard

once in the registry take your time...they all look alike...drill down until you find the key

after making the change there is a place there to put it in favorites..its a good way to keep track of the keys that you change

200 is a good number for it.....400 is default

edit
A reboot will be needed for the change to take effect

are you sure you are on the correct key?

  1. Click Start -> Run
  2. Type regedit in the run box that appears.
  3. From the Registry Editor, navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Control Panel/Desktop
  4. Once there, find MenuShowDelay and set its value to equal the delay you would like before the menus are shown. See the chart below:
    Value Data: 0-999 (milliseconds)400 Default
    200 Works for most people
    0 No Delay
  5. Close the Registry Editor and reboot your computer. Changes will not take effect until reboot.

asuss06, You do what you want to but using Tweak UI to change the Menu Speed as I posted in my previous reply is very easy.

ive typed in regedit a dozen times and all i get is a one-second flash of a black box with a flashing cursor in the top left, and then its gone!!! ill cross my fingers and try it again when i get to work today (its on my work comp.) and if it doesnt magically work, THEN ill try the Treak UI program. i was just hoping to avaid one more program for something the computer SHOULD be able to do itself.
