 | Junior Member with 11 posts. | | | | The ultimate crash Hey i really need help,
I installed a codec that was a virus disguised in windows media player. As soon as i installed it i got the BSOD. i got BSOD from normal boot, safe mode, trying to use the windows cd(to do a recovery but crashes before first screen of options). If i use a linux based boot disk 2/3 kernal paniced. The one that didnt panic, Avira anti-virus, scans finds the virus but cannot remove it. It is definitely not a hardware problem and i have tried all of the boot cds with ALL of my hdds unplugged and it does the same. My specs are:
intel quad core 9450 cpu
ga-ep45t-extreme motherboard
2gb g.skill ddr3 1333 ram
1 sata dvd burner
1 seagate 80gb sata hdd
4 seagate 400gb hdds ( 2 pairs in mirror raid)
2 ATI X1650 video cards

#10 | The only way you will know if its a boot sector virus is if you run CHKDSK in CMD, (dos)
A boot sector virus is around 1-2K (2048 bytes)-(1024 bytes) (Much more likely 2K)
Depending on your Bios memory If you run CHKDSK it will be 1-2k smaller at the end of a scan (Much more likely 2k smaller)
The possibility of a boot sector virus is slim, but if you for some reason think thats what it is, thats how to check it....
Just to clarify:
You cant boot from win-disk?
you cant boot in safe mode?
If you think its hardware, have you got another system to swap things around?
Using the process of elimination you could track it down.

But ClamAV Is a virus scanner for Linux.
I dont know if your used to linux
But Open command/
>apt-get install clamav
If you have a usb drives, make sure they are connected when you Mount your linux, They maybe infected too.
Good luck

#15 | ok, i spent ages screwing around with files trying to do fdisk and fixmbr, but then i got the and cleared my bios. booted up fine so i went and changed all my settings back and it crashed. i worked out that if i dont enable the raid controller on the mobo it doesnt crash. anyone know how i can fix it? it can be the drives because i can see them in windows as the 4 single drives and they work perfectly... | |
