Boot up issue - Advice Needed Hello and thanks in advance for any assistance...
I am running Dell Studio 1537 with intel WIFI adapter. I have always been able to boot my machine and it would load the desktop within a blinks time and within seconds would be surfing the web via Internet Explorer (V6).
I downloaded all the critical updates back on 10-13-09 and ever since then I have had ongoing issues. I uninstalled the updates but still have the same problem..
The problem:
Upon booting the machine boots very fast as usual and the desktop with all icons are loaded. I can immediately double click my Outlook icon and send and receive email (So I am connected). If I try and open Internet Explorer or My Computer the computer hangs for around 2 minutes. Right before it opens I get a pop up balloon in the system tray that says my computer may be at risk. This pops up for a slpit second and then goes away and I have complete use of the system with no errors. Thinking this may be a firewall issue I reset the firewall and rebooted and still the same outcome. This time I was able to go to control panel and when I tried to open the Firewall it said unidentified windows problem firewall cannot display settings? I waited for the split second balloon to come and go and then I could access the firewall settings.
I updated Malware / Norton Antivirus and everything has come back clean. I have also checked the services and made sure they were set to automatic in regards to the firewall and com services.
Ran msconfig and removed all program startup files thinking maybe there is a conflict but no new software has been installed. I rebooted and still the same issue...
Any ideas?? |
