Thumbs up XP only boots in Safe Mode
Hi all,

New to this site, but found at least one fix for the above problem. My computer was able to start in safe mode but not in regular Windows mode. I would see the Windows XP splash screen but as soon as it was suppose to load the desktop, the monitor would shut off as if it wasn't recognized. Here's what I did to solve it....

--I booted up into Safe Mode (F8 during startup)
--Once in safe mode, I went to the Device Manager (Control Panel, System, Hardware Tab, Device Manager Button)
--Click on Display Adapter
--Right click on the Display Adapter(s) listed and select Uninstall (I would suggest having your original Driver CD as a backup in case Windows cannot automatically reinstall the drivers...if you don't have a driver CD, I would suggest downloading the Drivers from another computer and creating a CD--again, just in case Windows can't reinstall the drivers)
--Once you click to uninstall, close the window and restart the computer
--The cpu should boot back into regular Windows and reinstall the Display Adapters automatically. If it prompts you for your CD, insert it and load the drivers from there.
--Once it is loaded correctly, restart the computer to see if it fixed the problem permanently.

I have a newer LCD monitor on an older XP Home computer and this fixed the problem for me. Good luck and hope this helped.
