Problems after formatting
Hello, about a week ago I got a BSoD. After many, many attempts to boot I couldn't, I would just BSoD. I then decided that I needed to format my hard drive to try to fix it.

So now my drive is formatted and I am lost. This is the first time anything like this has happened to me. I couldn't find my driver disk that came with the computer so I am forced to DL them manually. I can't do anything, the only network driver currently installed is the 1394 adapter. My computer won't even recognize my ethernet cable.

I need you to tell me what drivers are going to be neccessary to download and, if possible, point me to them.

I have a Dell XPS 630i running XP pro SP2

Thanks!

What's the "service tag number" on that Dell?

------------------------------------------------------------

Go into the Device Manager and advise what's listed in

Display Adapters

Network Adapters

Sound Video And Game Controllers

If there are headings named

Other Devices

Unknown Devices

advise what's listed in them.

Display Adapters: Don't see anything that says this.

Network Adapters: 1394 Net Adapter

Sound Video And Game Controllers: Audio codecs, Legacy Audio Drivers, Legacy Video capture devices, media control devices, Video Codecs

Other Devices(All these have yellow question marks) Other PCI Bridge device, PCI Device, SM Bus Controller, Video Controller (VGA compatible).

Unknown Devices: none

Sorry the computer is a Dell XPS 630i running XP pro SP2 not a 625

Also, I forgot to mention the graphics card isn't stock. It has a nVidia GTX 260 in it right now

If there's no Display Adapters heading, that means the display adapter driver didn't get installed. The "Video Controller" entry in Other Devices confirms that.

There's no wired and/or wireless network adapter listed in Network Adapters, so the driver didn't get installed for one or both.

I don't see a sound device listed in Sound Video And Game Controllers, so I'm assuming at this time that the driver didn't get installed for it.

The service tag number is listed at the Dell site to a Dell Dimension XPS 630i desktop.

The display adapter is a NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT

Here is the download and instructions link for the driver.

The sound device is a Realtek ALC888 High Definition Audio

Here is the download and instructions link for the driver.

The network adapter is a NVIDIA Integrated Network Controller

Here is the download and instructions link for the driver.

The chipset is a NVIDIA SMBus

Here is the download and instructions link for the driver.

Download and save all 4 drivers in your working computer, then burn them off to a CD-R, then use the CD-R to install the drivers in this computer.

Install the chipset driver FIRST, then restart the computer.

Install the display adapter driver, sound device driver, network adapter driver in that order. Restart after each driver is installed.

Let me know how it went.
