My sound doesn't work.
My Acer 3680 laptop wont play sound out of its speakers it did work the first few weeks I had it then I did some windows updates and restart and bang it didn't work anymore,

Sometimes it still works, like this little program that comes installed with the computer that likes to call itself the "Sound Manager" has a little demo sounds .. they play fine real cool ... and the pc beep that plays fine as well but when I plug a set of headphones in to jack the pcbeep gladly stops, especially since the pcbeep was playing at fullblast.

So anyways I also try to open volume control and receive the
"no active mixer device error message"

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling my sound card driver. I have installing over top of. But the error remains and I still do not have any sound.

I would really like some help getting my sound back if anyone can get me some help on this it would be most appreciatted.

shlackpeny, Go to the link below and click on the "?" to the left of "Where did my Sounds go?" to expand it and you'll find several possible fixes.

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/top10faqs.htm

Also try this:

Go to Start > Run, and type in: services.msc.

A window will pop up with a list of services. Scroll down to Windows Audio. Right-click
and click on Properties.

Make sure that “Startup type” is set to automatic. Also, make sure, under “Service
status,” start is selected.

Went to http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/top10faqs.htm
ran the 5 sound fixes, but the are really minor, touchups for fixing pc beeps, which it didn't do and the final step directed me to windows/ microsoft troubleshooting center which didn't help.

followed through with the
Start > Run, and type in: services.msc.

Right- Click Windows Audio.
and click on Properties.

“Startup type” is set to automatic. “Service
status,” started is selected.

So audio service is running...

As the below will show I was doing some looking through on some other peoples posts and someone had suggested that they get PC wizard so the helpful posters could have some more computer specs .. well I don't know if it means anything but I downloaded it and below are the results for my audio Specs
and I think I might have two copies of my driver displayed another interesting thing about PC Wizard is that it had a tab for driver details and all it showed was

"no driver details available" in big friendly gray letters.

PC Wizard 2009 Version 1.911

I found something interesting in the control panel in sound an audio properties .. I have included a pic of the what it shows .. make note that all the options volume audio and voice tabs are completly greyed out.
Make note tab 1 Video tab "No Audio Device"
