Can't disable system restore
I have Windows XP Media center edition, SP3. I can no longer disable the system restore, when I try it says-
"System restore encountered an error trying to enable/disable one or more drives. Please restart your machine and try again."

I've rebooted several times, ran chkdsk, and tried in safe mode but always get the same message. Does anyone have any ideas how to resolve this?

Thanks

Have you tried disabling the system restore service? Start->Run->services.msc, then double-click on System Restore service, set the startup type to disabled and then reboot.

Slainte

Thanks for the reply,
I've tried selecting startup type as disabled in services.msc, then rebooting but when windows reloads it goes back to startup type as automatic in services.msc. Also, looking on services.msc it's showing System restore service as stopped, but when I click on properties on 'my computer' its still showing as running.

When I tried to start it in services.msc it said - "Could not start the system restore service on local computer. Error 126: The specified module could not be found."

Thanks

Sounds like something is SNAFUd in your windows installation; I'd restore to a working backup, or try a repair install of the OS.
