How Big is XP?
I recently reinstalled windows XP on my Desktop PC- when it was installed i checked to see how much space i would have after clearing all the old files off , it said i have used 22GB out of the 40GB i had. 22 GB!-no way XP is that big on a hard drive.

why do i only have this small amount of space left?-i haven't installed anything back on the PC.

My Windows folder is 1.5 GB. Check this sizes of your Windows and Program Files folders and then post back. The most likely cause of all the bulk is programs that were preinstalled on your computer by the manufacturer (bloatware).

Also, what did you use to install Windows? Was there a recovery program preinstalled on your computer that reset everything to how it was when you bought it? Or maybe you used a CD that came with the computer?

xp takes about 5 gb in your computer.when u reinstalled it did u do a fresh new reinstall and delete all of the partitions and just put it on c or did u install a copy on top of an existing copy? thats maybe where all of your space went.if u have a 40gb hard drive u might want to see about getting a bigger hard drive. 40 gb can get filled up very quickly.u might want to go to a 80gb or even larger.hope this helps u.

If you reinstalled it likely there are now 2 Windows which is not the proper way to do it. You need to boot to XP cd and then install clean now.
