IBM thinkpad t42 reboot problem
Ibm thinkpad with xp pro. Wife had a problem while on facebook and clicked on a link for mafia wars. Machine kept running a vertical bar in the address bar. I closed it out and downloaded super anti spyware and it found problems related to Gamevance and deleted them. Did a reboot and all was fine. downloaded malwarebytes and installed and ran. All were updated on install before running. When malware bytes found problems i clicked to repair. It did and said it needed to restart. When it restarted i got a BSOD and it kicked back select previous good mode so I tried that. same thing. Tried safe mode and it still reboots to the error. Tried the blue access ibm button and get a message NTLDR is missing press any key to restart. There is nothing important on this thing but I can get to a point to reinstall the OS. Any ideas? Thanks in advance Bill

Do you have an i386 folder on your C:\ root? If so you can access the files there. If not, download the service pack you are running on now SP2 or SP3 and extract the files from there.

I found an old xp cd and followed the instructions in the link. I copied the ntldr files ok but the problem still persists. Guy on facebook admitted it was the Koobface virus in the link he posted and the wife clicked on. Don't know if that will help any or not. Tried to make a ubcd411 disc but it did not want to play. I have never dealt with an iso before so may be something I did wrong.

Well now that you have the XP CD you can run a repair install of XP. BUT! you have Koobface, and that is a problem because the virus will still remain after the repair so, Download this app DiskInternals Boot CD run the app. It'll ask to download Bart's PE Builder because it's the base for building the rescue CD. You'll need the XP CD to build the disk so just follow the prompts. After you have built it and burned it to CD boot from it. It'll have network capability so you can Travers the Net. Go to this site How To Remove Koobface Virus
and follow the instruction to remove the virus. After you are done, restart the computer and boot from the XP CD and do a repair install. Go here to learn how ---> Windows XP Repair Install step by step Let us know how it goes.

I am having a tough time getting it to boot from the cd. I used the xp burner on my desktop to copy all the files it created in the bootcd directory. When I set the program to burn to cd it tried to overwrite my xp cd. Will try again tomorrow and see what i can do. Thanks for the help so far. Bill

Ended up doing a reformat and fresh install of xp pro. then had to get enough drivers from lenovo site to get wireless working again. Am downloading sp2 right now and will get the rest of xp updated before i do any more drivers.
