What OS do you have? What did you do, install or uninstall just before this started happening? Have you run malware and virus scans? Have you tried doing a system restore back to a date when the computer functioned properly?

Go to start \ run and type msconfig Go to the startup tab and remove all non-essential app's from starting up, apply and restart. Post back with results.

If all else fails, do a Windows repair. If you have a Windows CD, insert it in your CD/DVD drive and restart. Do NOT select 'Repair Console'; select install Windows, and when it says that Windows is already installed, select Windows repair (hit the 'R' key). It will replace all missing or corrupted Windows files. If you don't have a Windows CD, use the recovery discs that came with the computer or that you (should have) created immediately after buying the computer.

What about your recovery disc(s)? If the computer didn't come with a Windows CD (something I personally would not accept) OR recovery disc(s), the HD should have a recovery partition on it -- drive D:-- and your Start menu programs should include a Recovery entry. Click it and follow the prompts.

To be safe, unplug from the net and disable all app's. It possible that one of them could the problem. If it works start enabling them one at a time. It's better to start simple and work your way to complicated.

NvCpl.exe is an Nvidia service, which means you have an Nvidia graphics card or built-in graphics on your motherboard. It has to load, else no video.

I have never encountered a computer that did not have (a) a Windows CD, (b) recovery discs, (c) a recovery partition on the HD, or (d) a program on the HD to create recovery discs. IMO, one or more Windows files have become corrupted, and the easiest way to fix it/them is to do a Windows repair or recovery disc install. If you cannot find one of the things mentioned, you should try to borrow a Windows XP CD from a friend who has one and use it to run a repair. Failing that, buy Windows XP on eBay (e.g., http://cgi.ebay.com/Microsoft-Window...item56370b9e79).
