Hmm. Well that is strange... Under the sound tab it says this: No sound card was found. If one is expected, you should install a sound driver provided by the hardware manufacturer.

Media Control Devices
Video Codecs

Thats the only thing I can see concerning audio.
If you've installed your audio driver like you wrote, you should see something like Realtek AC 97 Audio or Realtek High Definition Audio.

I install the drivers and then reboot like it tells me to. Am I doing something wrong?

Have you tried right-clicking on "Sound, video and game controllers"?

Then, select "Scan for hardware changes".

Wait for the new hardware scan to complete. If Windows finds the new audio device, it will ask you if you would like it to find and install the drivers; click "Yes" Windows will automatically find, download and install the appropriate drivers if you do this.

When I right click to scan for hardware changes, all it finds is an "Ethernet controller", even though i made sure to right-click the "Sound, video and game controllers".

Have you tried right-clicking on the Legacy Audio Drivers and updating them?

OK just tried that. I tried to do an automatic update and that didnt work. Then I tried to do a manual one and point it to the driver installer but I couldnt really find anything to point it to exactly...(i think it was looking only for .inf files). I tried pointing it to the modified machine.inf file but that didnt work either.

Try this driver HERE.

Extract it and open the 5.10.0.5643(WHQL) folder.

Click on the Setup.exe (Macrovision Corporation) file to install.

OK I downloaded and installed taht one and rebooted my computer. I'm back now from rebooting and when I open the volume control it has the same "no mixer devices available" message. I checked in "dxdiag" and the same message is there too...

I'm not sure if my onboard sound is enabled in bios. How do I go about checking that?
