exchange error from transport layer
Can anyone help me with the error? I am especially worried because the next line states: connection reset by peer; socket write error. Also, upon boot-up windows goes every time to check disk, runs through the process, then says to wait to shut down, but it never shuts itself down. I would be really grateful for any help with this.

exchange error solved
Lance,
Thanks so much for your input. I didn't really look up the error; you helped me to realize that the exchange error was related to Microsoft Office. Since I only had the 60-day trial version on my computer and it was about to expire, I just deleted the whole program.
I was still having trouble with repeated call for chkdsk on bootup, but I purchased a registry cleaner (had been planning to do so anyway) and I'm hoping things are back to normal.
Appreciate your help.
Thanks. Ceciltwin

Have you checked your scheduled task? If it's there, remove it.

chkdsk still coming up
Lance,
I checked under scheduled tasks. Chkdsk is not listed. Is there any way for me to figure out what is going on? Is there a way to repair windows without disturbing the programs? I have a recovery disk, but I assume it would wipe out everything I have on the disk.
Thanks.

Ya, if you run the recovery CD it most likely would destroy such data in favor of its new matrix! "O"... I'm sorry, That's the Trekkie coming out in me But seriously, most recovery disk's will not have the option for repair. On the subject of chkdsk I found a way to disable it from running on startup:

Quote:
There are some people suggested to edit the registry but the proper way to disable CHKDSK from starting up is using the /x switch on chkntfs command in command prompt. The /x switch will exclude a drive from the default boot-time check. If you have drive C: as your hard drive, then the command to disable chkdsk from scanning C: drive would be:

chkntfs /x c:

If you have 2 drive, C and D, you can disable chkdsk with the command below

chkntfs /x c: d:
