Unhappy Solved: Windows Explorer Freezes
I have a local network of 3 PCs hard-wired to a router and modem to cable internet. All 3 now run XP but one ran Vista until last week, when I gave up on it and installed a fresh copy of XP over it. I had set each PC to share their resources across the LAN, which worked fine until I overlaid Vista with XP, probably because the resources on the Vista system were named 'Vista C Drive', 'Vista Floppy Drive', etc, and are now named 'CAM XP C Drive', etc. Not only can I no longer access the 'CAM' system (running XP) from my other systems (via My Network Places under WIndows Explorer), but if I try to do so, Windows Explorer freezes the PC trying to do the access. I can't close W.E., and can only Shut Down via the Vulcan Nerve Pinch. Any ideas to get over this problem will be greatly appreciated.

Does the former Vista box show up to either of the others when you View Workgroup Computers?

I can't close W.E., and can only Shut Down via the Vulcan Nerve Pinch.

I like that - a new verb "to Spock" springs to mind for an emergency shutdown.

Hello, Saga! I hadn't tried that, and it worked! Thank you very much! I had only to enable file sharing on the newly loaded XP system to be right back in business sharing files.
