Unhappy Windows xp messing up hiport and internet
Hey, i have been having issues with one of my computers, and my t-mobile hiport that i use. here is the setup: i have a motorola wireless router, with a t-mobile hiport connected to it, and our family computer (win xp) connected to the hiport. my other computer that connects straight to the router (via ethernet) is win xp and i have also installed ubuntu 9.04 on it using wubi. We also have an xbox 360 connected to router via ethernet. when i run ubuntu on my computer, the internet is completely fine, and i have the blue light on the hiport and all my lights on the router are green. however, when i switch to using windows on my computer, the blue light on the hiport goes off, and my web browser says that it cant find the website (i am trying to use netflix but they dont support linux). Also, the whole network seems to just quit working, until i turn off my computer, and reset the router. Can somebody pleas help me fix this? really want to get on windows to use those programs that are exclusive to windows, and dont work on wine. thanks for any help.

Can you experiment with usin g only Windows and the wireless equipment, both starting up together with nothing else in the network, to see if the problem is definitely within Windows? The fact that the Hiport marches out in a huff when Windows shows up implies there's a mutual dislike. Are the Windows drivers in place?

hey. sorry it took me soooo long to respond. really busy lately. i tried what you said and here is what happened. The blue light on the hiport started flashing, and everything else green. stayed like that for a couple of minutes or so. on my comp though, it was connected to the internet, because windows downloaded an update, but i could not do anything with the web browser, because it said it could not find the webpage. Get back on ubuntu and it all works.

Is there a tick in "Automatically detect settings" if you follow Control Panel>Internet Options>Connections tab>LAN button>?
