Question Kernel data inpage error, driver irql not less or equal & sound skipping
Hi, I've been searching for about 2 weeks now online for a solution to some of the problems I'm having with my laptop and I haven't found anything to be much help so far so I'm hoping maybe some of you could help me.

I own a Gateway M460 3400383 Laptop with Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2.
Some history of the computer:
The computer was used when I got it from a friend. I plugged it in and started the computer up, I rebooted with XP Home edition and the computer seemed to be working fine except that I needed drivers for everything. I used a friend's laptop to get the drivers I need onto a flash drive and installed them into the Gateway and got everything working.
The computer was pretty fast, wasn't freezing, no error messages but once I installed my web cam the computer started to move slower whether I was using the cam or not.
Even without the cam plugged in my USB port.

Problems:
Eventually things got worse because instead of listening and enjoying music with my laptop, the sound that plays on anything with the computer skips, jumps, lags and while it's doing this the task manager shows my CPU usage full. If I continue playing the music I will usually get the blue screen saying
" Kernel data inpage error" or the "driver irql not less or equal" error screen and it does the memory dump.
My computer also makes a clicking sound when this happens usually and I can hear it running loudly.
I've gotten the kernel error screen 2 or 3 times and 2 of which the screen listed a .sys file First time it was pfc027.sys
And the second time it was atapi.sys

All sounds on the computer skip around even when I don't have any other programs running. The XP start-up sound skips, youtube skips, windows media player skips.. and it just gives me a headache.

Any suggestions?

**Any other info you would need to help please ask and I will do my best to find it out for you.

Assistance for atapi.sys error
Hi...I had problems with the blue screen referencing the atapi.sys file was in error. I searched my hard drive for all atapi.sys files. The one the computer uses was under c:\windows\system32\drivers. It was an hour younger than the atapi.sys file under c:\windows\servicepackfiles\i386\sp3. So I deleted the file under c:\windows\system32\drivers. My system automatically replaced it with the newest version of the file; but if yours doesn't I would just copy the file from service pack 3 and paste it.

I'm not familiar with your other file, but I would try updating it the same way or downloading the latest driver from whatever it belongs to.

I hope that helps.
