I have a Sony Vaio laptop that had a new hard drive put in it (isn't the original HD) and now has a virus that won't come out with virus scan. I have an XP Pro cd with the product key. Do I put the XP cd in the rom, Restart and boot off the cd to reformat the HD? And then go to the sony site and put back in all the drivers? Any other info I need to know would be great!

Thats pretty much it, though if you have a blank cd i would download the drivers and burn them so when the xp install asks if you have additional drivers you can click to set them into the install. but you can do just the install then get the drivers from the site afterwards. the only problem you might run into is if xp doesnt recognize the network adapter whether it be wired or wireless. though you can also use a flash drive (usb drive) and save the drivers onto it for access after installing.

Thank You so much. I have the wireless drivers for it and will download from sony The other drivers on cd. OR, is there a way to get the drivers off the laptop before I reformat it?

u can go to my computer local disk c and look for the drivers file. it should list all of the correct drivers that are already in the computer. just burn the file to a blank cd and u should be all set.hope this helps u.
