disable antivirus
PC is locked up in safe mode due to 14 kazillion virus infections but I can access the run command box for DOS commands.
Tried to reformat the C drive with DOS commands but I get a message that says a program is using the drive and the format can not be done.
The program which I suspect is running in the background is -- Windows Security Center because I keep getting a screen from said program telling me about all the infections.
I disabled ALL programs in the start menu using -- msconfig with no effect on the antivirus program mentioned --- yes I did a reboot.
Is there any way I can disable the antivirus in --- regedit as I notice there is a folder for --- security.
PS : The only way I can access any files, folders or command lines is by using the debug option at boot up, otherwise I get a black screen with Safe Mode posted at each corner and the only thing that functions is the mouse pointer icon.
System is Windows XP Pro and PC make is -- ( Ultra ? )
Thank You for your assistance.

Dont have an answer for you unfortunately, but one thing you shouldnt do is to publish your email address on a forum such as this as it will invite spammers from everywhere ...for your own sake you should remove it asap .....

You can go inti the security centre via the control panel and check the option for it NOT to notify you, although they dont advise this of course .....

First point to make, be sure to remove your email address from your post. Spammers trawl through websites like these to fish for email addresses. The last thing you need is your inbox full of junk mail. Just click 'Edit' at the bottom of your post and remove the line. You can post any and all messages here.

Sounds to me like it is the virus(es) itself that is creating these messages. Unfortunately, this is not to warn you of its own presence, but most likely to get you to buy into something that doesn't actually work.

Windows Security Centre does not actually warn you about the presence of viruses, instead it tells you whether the protection services (firewall, antivirus, Windows Updates) are up and running.

I most certainly do not recommend disabling your antivirus or firewall at the moment (certainly not at all, without reason).

The best advice I can give you at this point is to download HijackThis (http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en...HJTInstall.exe). Install the program (it will save to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis), run it, and select 'Scan'. Do not fix anything yet, just select 'Save log', and copy the contents of the log to your next post.

Once you have done this, click on the 'Report' button below, and ask to have your thread moved to the Malware Removal forums. The staff there are trained in malware removal, and can provide you with the best course of action to take (you may find that reformatting is not necessary).

Aside from that, you might want to install and run Malwarebytes (http://www.malwarebytes.org/). This is a very powerful spyware removal tool, and should be able to remove a lot of the infections. Copy the results of this to your post as well.
