It's Microsoft speak for something didn't work when you asked it to. If it does it three times, it's worth reinstalling the printer software.

HP Photosmarrt error message
It's not a 'printer' problem..the printer works fine. I can't open the 'software' that was loaded into the computer at the time of purchase.....
thanks....

May I suggest that you delete your duplicate post in Digital Photography & Imaging.

Have you contacted HP support about this problem ??
photosmartptr_support_en@mail.support.hp.com

Have you tried to remove and reinstall Photosmart yet ??

Have you made your HP recovery DVDs yet ??

No, I haven't made any recovery DVD's so I can't use that for help.....& I didn't get a photosmart disk with my computer so I could remove & reinstall. I can't even get into the on line tech support in the software that usually helped me with other problems with Photosmart.

I just wanted to make sure you had your Recovery DVDs .. Just in Case.

I can't tell you how to fix Photosmart .. Because it's one of the first things I rip out a new HP computer when I get one.

You Should be able to Remove Photosmart ... Then reinstall it using the HP application Recovery...
This might fix it ... But it might be best to wait and see what HP says.

If I knew how you used it .. maybe we could suggest something Better

I'm beginning to feel the same way about Photosmart..I just use it to store photos from my camera memory card & try to Copy them to a CD. That hasn't even been too sucessful, I had to create a separate file for all my images & copy from there, even though Photosmart has a 'copy to CD' feature in their 'share' menu. I know how to 'uninstall' it but since I don't have a disk for that software, how do I reinstall using the HP application Recovery that you mentioned. Is that an online thing I can do....I sure appreciate talking with someone in the USA. I'm waiting for HP's email answer, but they wanted information to see if I was under warranty....No to that question, but I sent them the system info. anyway. My system recovery option doesn't work either. A computer shop will probably be seeing me shortly.....Do you have a better photo software that you could reccommend
thanks again......

I download my photos manually .. from Computer .. to a folder on my desktop.
Then I edit, as may be needed .. And store them somewhere.

For burning to a CD/DVD .. I'd use Sonic Record now .. It came with your HP.

As far as viewing and basic editing of pictures .. I use the freeware Irfanview ..
and have it set up as my systems default picture Viewer and Editor.

I refuse to use any program that will try to browse/organize my pictures ..
I have a hunch this is where your problem is.

HP "Application" recovery is built into your HP computer ... The files are in the recovery partition.

photonut1956:

You didn't say which version of HP Photosmart Essential you've been using.

Version 3.5 has been out for quite awhile.

http://www.hp.com/united-states/cons...are/index.html

You also didn't describe your printer or all-in-one.

Noyb:

Whenever I install software for a HP printer or HP all-in-one, I choose the advanced/custom install option so I can select what gets installed.

Besides the driver software, I only install Imaging Device Functions, OCR Software, and Solution Center - which are all needed.

Photosmart Essential, Customer Participation Program, Buy HP Supplies, and all the other crap doesn't get installed.

Gayle:

Here is the support and software site for the HP Photosmart C5180 All-in-One. If you don't have this site saved in your browser favorites list, you should so you'll have it for reference when needed.

I don't know how long you've had that all-in-one and what version of the software package it's using, but version 7.0.2 was released in August.

What I would do(and I'm speaking for myself) is unplug that all-in-one from the computer, uninstall all software components for it, restart the computer, then use the advanced/custom install option to install only what's required and needed.
