Restores won't go to October?
I have done a number of restores trying to get my new LG DVD/CD R-W internal drive back. Now, I can't get back further into October....where I need to go. I uninstalled some programs....but didn't touch anything that should affect restore. I am using Windows XP Professional. System info: Pentium(R) 4 - 512 g ram 1.70 Ghz 80 G hard drive )about 80% free space). Any ideas?

Your problem may be due to installing a Windows update that was not compatible with older restore point data and you only have restore points after the update date.

Windows did do an update!
So, is there any way I can reverse that update....or am I stuck with no restore points....except from today on?

Not sure about undoing an update and if it will restore older restore points.

I usually do custom updates so that I can review each one and I recall seeing some that warn that restore points will be removed and/or that the update is not un-doable.

Hmm...well Microsoft repair didn't help.
I finally got the Net.Framework thing upgraded and Microsoft tried to fix my problem. But, autosystem couldn't find a problem. I declined to let them charge me for a live repair tech to come in. I can probably get it done cheaper than Microsoft? I am on a tight budget now anyway. So, I can't use my LG DVD/CD R-W drive....and I can't restore anymore. Hope someone can figure out something. Thanx for your help.

Sounds like recovery is not a practical alternative, so what is your perception of what is preventing you using the LG DVD/CD R-W drive. Drivers? Software? Does it appear in Device Manager? Please provide some details.

BulletProof1:

You can do all the system restores that you want, but that's not going to fix a non-working optical drive. It's apparently a hardware problem and not a software problem.

My drive does work!...it reads...
...but, it is also a burner...I saved one file on CD, after they installed the drive...just to test it. I only had one blank CD lying around. I checked in device manager, per previous reply...and this is how current drive is listed: DVD/CD ROM Drive. (That's after Microsoft tried their repair). The Driver, I guess, is: HL-DT-ST-DVD-RAM-GH22NP20. I called ppl who installed it, they so busy, it will be another week for they could look at computer. Plus, I will have to pay for a repair. My drive was not listed that way! It said LG DVD/CD R-W...something else....and it read & wrote!

Are there any red or yellow warning icons for the drive in device manager.

You can always open up the computer and look at the label on the drive to confirm the exact model number.

You can download drivers for an LG Electronics GH22NP20 drive here:

Did you uninstall any programs that had any kind of CD or DVD burning functions? I had problems with iTunes a while ago that replaced some optical drive drivers when installed and did not replace them with the originals when uninstalled.

No I did not touch any burning programs....
....The shop that installled my LG Drive loaded Nero on my computer. I never used Nero....It look pretty complicated. But, I didn't remove it either. It does still appear on desktop....at least icons do. Check one icon, started to do Nero install, so I backed away.
