black screen only mouse movin
ok so computer came up with a black screen suddenly

it.s one of those Asus boards ===

i tried everything i could think off to fix it
recovery console - chkdsk fixmbr fixboot
safe mode doesent open task menager it.s the same ol black screen with only mouse shown up

ok so i did near 90% of the stuff i new to fix it

reinstall it.s not a option

ok so what is the question

if i delete corupted
sam security default system etc ... stuff in system32\config
and copy working sam security.... from windows\repair folder
i get the system to work
but after restoring
system volume information no mather what date it comes again with black screen

ok so now i decided to go with more radical options

that.s why i am asking for help just
yes / no answer

what am i going to do is this
can i copy corupted profile to a new one(i know i can ) and what are my chances
to get the system to work as it did before

or is there a chance to get that file that.s blocking the system from booting
i read somewhere in vista forums that if u clear eventlog system can start
but i dont now where can i find it in xp

thanks

If you are using a laptop have you got access to another monitor to plug into the lap top to see if that works? If a desk top try another monitor anyway, see if a friend has one you could borrow to try.

I guess if you have been hunting Vista forums, you are using Vista.

Have you checked your graphics driver, or the data cable to the monitor? (If you are using a desktop) I guess some data is getting through if you are seeing the cursor, but maybe its only partly working.

I was suggesting things so we could discount other things, but glad you have sorted it, it usually comes to you after a while, if you keep at it, only you know the whole situation, which was why I was asking questions.

You are right, I did not read the part right where you said the mouse was showing on the black screen, when I suggested tyring another monitor, what a ditz I am, obviously only parts registered in my mind there, which is why I suggested connecting another monitor before doing anything, never mind, lucky I am not working on the impossible of being perfect ay lol

Cool that you worked it out though.
