Solved: 20,000 BIN and SPJ files. Can I delete them?
I'm cleaning up my father's PC and I found that there are over 20,000 BIN and SPJ files on the C drive. I don't know what they do. Most files are about 1 kb in size. but a few are about 2000 KB. I cut and paste them all into one folder on the C drive and no computer functions have been affected. They are taking up about 2 GB on the disk. I am wondering if I can safely delete them.

You didn't say which folder path in the C: drive they were located in.

Since you're doing some "housecleaning", everything inside these 2 Temp folders can be deleted:

C:\Documents And Settings\(Username)\Local Settings\Temp

C:\WINDOWS\Temp

If you've consolidated all those files into a single folder in the C:\ root directory and everything is still working normal, I'd say it's safe to delete that entire folder.

Just to be safe first, start up all your programs and confirm they're all starting up and working properly.

The files are now in the Recycle bin and I haven't noticed any change in the system. I'll leave them there for a few days and delete.

While I'm on the topic, I've also found another bunch of files in the main C: directory. They were hidden. There are about 45 sqm files there. Again, I don't know what they do or if it's safe to delete them. Any ideas?
